Nicolai Hartmann (February 20, 1882 – October 9, 1950) was a German philosopher.
Hartmann was natural, of German descent, around Riga, now Latvia and then capital of the Russian province of Livonia. He exposed Medicine at the University of Tartu (so Jurjev), then Philosophy in St. Petersburg and, most importantly, at the University of Marburg in Germany, where he took his Ph.D. and Habilitation. He was prof of philosophy within Marburg (1922–25), Cologne (1925–31), Berlin (1931–45) and Göttingen (1945–50), where he died.
Originally the Neo-Kantian, studying under Hermann Cohen and Paul Natorp, Hartmann soon developed his have philosophy which has been diversely described as a kind of
of existentialism, critical realism, etc. Hartmann suffered from either a comparison using, & popularity of, his Marburg successor Martin Heidegger, who wwhen regarded as existence very much other radical & "cool".
Among Hartmann's students were Boris Pasternak and Hans-Georg Gadamer. His brilliant & encyclopaedic act is fundamentally forgotten now; although globe noted when you took his flush, he occurs as average insider's philosopher. An exception can be his early operate on the philosophy of biology, which is currently restoration popularity due to its high relevancy for the discussion all about genomics, cloning, and a prefer.
